Functional skills tutor – Southampton

Exciting opportunity for a Functional Skills tutor to join an experienced team of trainers in a very unique department – the MOD.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruct and assess students in English and Math Functional Skills at Levels 1 and 2, including exam administration.
  • Manage a student caseload, ensuring timely progress and coordinating course bookings.
  • Maintain up-to-date learner e-portfolios, documenting achievements, and giving feedback.
  • Conduct and document Speaking and Listening assessments at Level 1 & 2.
  • Provide both in-person and remote support, motivating students throughout their educational journey.
  • Create Tutor Rationale and Programme Plans to outline educational goals and timelines for each student.
  • Handle additional tasks such as course development, tutorial support, and related administrative duties.
  • Compile and deliver Functional Skills performance data to management.
  • Comply with all organizational policies, including Quality Assurance and Risk Management, and actively participate in professional development to align with teaching standards.

Requirements:

  • A Teaching Qualification, such as Cert Ed, PGCE, DTLLS, CTLLS, or PTLLS/AET.
  • At least a Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics.
  • Proven experience in teaching Functional Skills (English and Mathematics) at Levels 1 and 2.
  • Experience in providing remote learning support using various technologies, including Zoom.
  • Capability to innovate and implement practical delivery models for Functional Skills.
  • Skill in using contextualized teaching techniques to engage students in learning.
  • Enthusiastic approach to work.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and own a car, with willingness to travel for business as needed (Milage allowance payable!).
